In 2010 I was fortunate enough to do an art residency in Wajima City, Japan. Wajima has a beautiful old fishing village on the coast of the Japan Sea and before my residency, it recently had a very bad earthquake and was being restored (article at the bottom of the page refers to this earthquake and the old store house that the residency had taking place).
Whilst painting in Wajima one of the major sensations was the beautiful winter colours of the local sea, town and mountains as evidenced in the acrylic paintings below. Wajima is a truly romantic with its snow-covered windswept mountain coastline which I thoroughly enjoyed painting.
Unfortunately it has been hit by another devastating earthquake so I have put a link below if anyone would like to donate to Wajima’s recovery, thank you.
